Historically informed musical performance and the circus may seem unlikely bedfellows. On closer inspection, however, this collaboration between the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and Brisbane-based troupe Circa could hardly be more simpatico.

The synergies begin with these companies’ respective leaders. ABO’s Paul Dyer and Circa’s Yaron Lifschitz are uncannily alike in their visions, both mining the highest pedigree of age-old crafts to uncover new creative frontiers.

The production’s featured soloist, soprano Jane Sheldon, boasts a similarly pioneering spirit, having built a career largely focused on contemporary repertoire — though her crystal-clear, radiant tone is also suited to early music, especially that drawn from the English tradition, which forms the backbone of this program.
